Removal of Calculus (tartar): Calculus is mineralized dental plaque that’s firmly attached to the tooth surface. It harbours bacteria which are harmful to the teeth and surrounding gums and therefore need to be removed regularly. Removal of calculus can be done with the help of specialized dental instruments in the hands of our friendly Registered Dental Hygienist.
Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on the teeth. It is a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins (poisons) that inflame the gums. Untreated plaque can lead to gum disease.
Teeth polishing: Once the teeth are cleaned and all plaque and calculus are removed, polishing is performed which leaves your teeth feeling smooth and ultra clean.
At Meadowvale Family Dental we believe that prevention is better than cure. During routine visits we detect tooth decay and gum disease as soon as possible and recommend the appropriate treatment options accordingly. The earlier we are able to detect disease and potential problems, the smaller and less invasive the treatment.
Dental Bonding/Sealing offers you additional protection against cavities by sealing the grooves in teeth which can trap food particles and encourage the growth of bacteria.
